Starting Keto Again

My name’s Mike, and I love the ketogenic diet (Keto). It is the only way I’ve been able to reliably achieve and maintain a healthy Keto lifestyle and weight.  I guess I just love bread, pita, and cake too much?  So this begs the question, what do you mean “Starting Keto Again” if you use it to keep slim and healthy?

To answer this, you need to know about one of my core personality traits. I’m a tinkerer or experimenter or investigator or explorer, whatever you want to call it, I have a heavy dose of curiosity. In regards to my health, I use myself as a human test subject. I like to gain weight through a carb heavy diet (guilty pleasures abound) and then lose the weight with Keto, changing variables such as exercise, amount of fat, types of fat, food sources, vegetable intake, etc. I’ve been doing this cycle for 8 years now (I’m sure my doc loves me). Each time pushing the envelope to find out what is optimized and how quickly I can push myself down the road of weightless and health. I’ve lost collectively around 380 pounds over the last 8 years. I’ve gained around 410. My target weight with no muscle at 6 feet tall is about 175 pounds, with muscle, around 195.

I started out this cycle at 236.3 pounds with a new idea. I will record the journey and the findings and share here with the world. I get questions all the time from people on how I do it, so now I can just point them here. I certainly acknowledge that there is a ton of great information on the ketogenic diet out there, but I will use my first-hand experience, science acumen, and terrible writing create something interesting and worthwhile. If you see a question that I haven’t answered well, let me know so I can fill it in, but also so I can point you to a reliable resource.

The first week is always the most fun, trying different variables to minimize the impact of the Keto flu, the massive water weight drop, and the instant recognition from friends and family that “hey did you lose weight, your face looks skinnier”. Now if only my “fat wings” aka the “love handles” that would cause someone to describe me as “pear-shaped” would drop as quickly, they’re always the last to go away.

Shoot me a message if you want to chat or have questions or want some advice, I’m always happy to speak with other Keto-ers.

Mike
